March 8th, 2016 update: One month ago FarmSatoshi, CannonSatoashi and CitySatoshi stopped paying. Since then, admin has not shown up in forum. The forum related to games is also abandoned.
Going back in time, there was a FarmSatoshi accounts suspension spree in December 2015, where many accounts were suspended allegedly for blocking ads. It looked like an attempt to get rid of many high level accounts (selective scam).
In January 2016 the games websites were suspended by Google Adsense, and that started the end of the games.
The games are being left for dead, and the earned satoshi amounts have not been payed. Take in count that at CannonSatoshi and CitySatoshi there was possibility to invest buying gems.
Even a new game was released a few days ago named TombSatoshi. Stay away from that, for being likely a scam.
In the past article about the free Bitcoin game Farm Satoshi it was shortly described what is the Speed Game in Farm Satoshi: an independient mini-game, that it lasts from a few minutes up to 1 hour. The game does not use the satoshi earned in the ongoing, level up game, but it works apart. In case the reader is new to the game, read the article above and register at Farm Satoshi to try it.
The objective of the game is to buy a Buffalo in the least time possible. Once we buy it, we reach the endline and get our rank in the match.
The Speed games are scheduled randomly over day by day, there is no fixed schedule or amounts of matches. Once we see that the Speed button at top left side of game display is flashing with a number (how many tickets are yet available for the next match), we may buy a ticket, for 2,000 satoshi, and join the game.
There will be a countdown showing how much is left to the Speed game start. It is not recommendable to leave browser tab unrefreshed for long time (i.e. 5 minutes), while awaiting. Suggestion is to refresh the speed game page 1 minute or less before the start, since the countdown might stop or slow down and we may find the game already started, when the the page timer reaches zero. The page shows the list of rewards of the match, for winner, and the next 49 players. Rewards do not always match the pictures of Wheel of Fortune tickets rewarded.
Speed game intefaze: panels and features
The interfaze is composed by animal slots at top center, and produce holders to the left side, which will hold the produce we collect from animals, and each type of produce (eggs, whool, milk, meat) can be sold separately. To the right of the animal slots there is the player's balance in satoshi, and buttons to open the shops to buy animals, their feed, and water.
Below the animals slots there are the warehouses for each feed and water, where we can see their size, the cost of each upgrade of warehouse, and a graphic bar representing its storage rate.
To the left side of warehouses there is a small panel which shows some live info regarding player: live rank during game, the speed-up of the game, how many players already ended the match, ...
And to the right of the warehouses there is a panel that will show a live rank of the top 4 players which are nearest to the objective of the game. Those 4 players can be handicapped by all the contestants. Anyways, let's explain the Speed game first as if there were no handicaps, that is, as how it was the game before handicaps feature was added.
The objective of the Speed Game
So, we must buy the buffalo in the least time posible. To achieve that, we invest the balance of satoshi, to buy water, buy feed, buy animals, collect the produce, sell it, save satoshi, and spend it wisely to earn quickly the satoshi amount to buy the buffalo. The animal slots may be purchased to have more animals producing, therefore we earn more satoshi per second. There are different sized bulks of feed, so we must check carefully that our warehouses can hold at least the smallest bulk of the animal we wish to breed. Also, we can kill an animal from the slot it is using, so as to be replaced quicker, by an animal producing more satoshi per second. Killing animal before it stops producing may be an imporant factor to speed up the satoshi generated per second.
Once we buy the buffalo, our participation ends, and we get ranked according to the time we used from the match start till clicking the buffalo purchase button.
How the speed-up factor works
The fun of the game is that the production, life and feed/water spent is speeded up according to the factor we can read both before the game start, and to the left, while we play. So for example, a speed-up of x60 means that if an animal is set to live for 1 "heart", instead of living 1 hours it lives x times faster, and produces that faster too. For example, the pekin duck lives for 1 "heart", and produces some amount of eggs per hour. So if the speed up factor is x60 that means the pekin duck will live 1 minute and deliver the produce likewise, that faster. But if the speed up factor is for example x120 then the pekin duck will live for 30 seconds, and produce all the eggs during that time. Therefore, to avoid confussion, let's call the hearts life cycles. So for example, Mallard duck lives 2 life cycles, and produces 12 eggs per life cycle. The Ancona duck lives 3 cycles, and produces 17 eggs per life cycle.
Speed Game dynamic set ups: each match is different!
There are some game settings that never change: animals price, or feed bulks cost. But, everything else is variable, it may change from match to match! Let's list how many things can be different game per game:
- Which animals are available in the animals shop panel
- Which feed bulks are available at feed shop panel
- The size of the feed and water warehouses
- The price of upgrading each feed and water warehouses
- The price of each animal slot to extend the ranch space and add more animals
- Check that we have at least one animal slot available; if not then purchase
- Buy water; if the minimum quantity of water to buy is larger than the water warehouse size, upgrade that warehouse till it may contain that minimum amount of purchaseable water
- Now it is the time to choose the animal and its feed; the usual is that we have enough satoshi just to start by slowest satoshi generating animals, that is, the ducks; but sometimes, there are enough satoshi left at this step to buy carrots and rabbit. So again, check if the warehouse related to that feed can hold the minimum bulk of feed we can purchase. If not then upgrade warehouse till it is able to hold it. Then purchase the feed.
- Finally buy the animal related to that feed. So, we must be fast doing the math to know which is the best start for the production.
There it can be found:
- life (meassured in hearts or cycles);
- the profit earned per animal (for this, it is not taken in count the satoshi spent in feed, just it is substracted the cost, to make calculation simpler; since, we must buy feed no matter what, but what really matters is which animal we choose for production);
- the gross satoshi earned by animal (that is, how many satoshi will that animal produce in its whole life);
-the gross satoshi generated per life cycle: this is the key of the game. This column shows how fast an animal is able to generate the satoshi. For example, if the speed-up factor is x60 then life cycle is 1 minute, therefore we could say that Galway sheep produces goods (whool, and meat) for a value of 18700 satoshi per minute; it just lives 1 life cycle, therefore in its 1 minute life it produces that amount of satoshi. In fact it is the fastest satoshi generator of the Speed Game.
- ROI: how much time is needed so an animal breaks even the cost of itself. Next to that column there are a few practical examples in seconds, for speed factors of x60, x30, and x100
If we check each animal type, we may notice a very eye-catching detail: the longer the duck's life, the quicker it produces the satoshi. Therefore, the usual strategy is that, in case we must start by buying the pekin duck, we save enough satoshi to buy the next available duck, which will produce faster than Pekin one.
But, if we check the rest of animals types (rabbit, goat, pig, sheep), it is just plain contrary: the shortest life animal produces faster than any animal of its same type. For example white rabbit produces faster than other rabbits. Not only that, it produces faster than Pygmy and Saanen goats!
Let's define an example:
There are Bellied ducks and white rabbits available, and some time after the start of the game we are breeding the Bellied ducks to save enough satoshi to jump to next animal niche and buy the white rabbit. Remember the check list described earlier: we will have to save enough satoshi to buy the white rabbit, to buy the smallest carrot bulk, and if necessary to upgrade enough times the carrot warehouse so that the smallest carrot bulk fits!
Short after the game started, after saving enough satoshi from other ducks, we buy the bellied duck, our balance is reduced to zero, and we must buy a white rabbit, for 1180 satoshi.
The carrot warehouse size is 25. The smallest carrot bulk available in the shop is of 100 size, and it costs 400 satoshi. And each carrot warehouse upgrade costs 100 satoshi. See that all these variables, are precisely variables, that's why the game is so dynamic. Also, each new size of the warehouse after a upgrade may vary, but let's define a serie of upgrades of carrot warehouse as starting from size 25: 25 - 38 - 57 - 86 - 129.
This means that to have a warehouse of size 129, we must purchase 4 upgrades, therefore we must spend 400 satoshi upgrading the warehouse . So, the minimum final budget to start breeding rabbits would be:
1180 (white rabbit cost) + 400 (feed cost) + 400 (warehouse upgrades total cost) = 1980 satoshi.
The bellied duck gross satoshi production is 2600 satoshi, therefore we know that at some time in its life, we will reach to have the needed amount. If that was not the case, we should go on saving satoshi, by buying a new bellied duck, once the first one dies. Also, let's stop here to consider the matter of animal slots: as we build progressively our satoshi generation speed, think always if it will help or not to to buy an additional slot to generate more satoshi/second. If the slots are as cheap as 100 satoshi and up, you might want to consider to buy them since the ducks 'phase'. In this example, since the amount to save for rabits is 1980 satoshi, then it looks like a delay to buy the second slot for 1500 satoshi, therefore we leave that for later.
So, once we saved the 1980 satoshi, we upgrade warehouse, buy carrot, kill Bellied duck and replace for the white rabbit. Why kill the duck before time? because we increase the satoshi generation speed from 520 satoshi per cycle (bellied duck speed), to 3000 satoshi/cycle (white rabbit speed). Since this example speed factor is x60 let's say that bellied duck was producing 520 satoshi/minute, and the white rabbit in its minute of life it will produce 3000 satoshi (3000 satoshi/minute). This is why we kill the bellied duck and place ASAP the white rabbit: to increase satoshi generation to 3000 satoshi/minute as soon as possible. We must analyze the data in front of our eyes and take some decisions in the least time possible, that's why this type of game is so addictive!
So, we have bought our first white rabbit, that produces feed at a value of 3000 satoshi/minute. We check then which animal would be best to breed next. We will also take in count the price of the next slots. In the animals shop there are: Corsican goat producing a gross/cycle of 3900 satoshi/minute; Ossabaw pig producing at a fantastic rate of 11500 satoshi/minute (2nd best in the Speed game); and also from sheep, the Quessant which produces at a rate of 6500 satoshi/minute. It looks like the pig is the choice. But remember the checklist defined earlier: we must check which feed bulks we have available, if they fit or not in warehouses, and if not, what is the upgrades cost.
Some corn warehouse size series found in game are like these:
* 20 - 30 - 45 - 68 - 102 - 153 - 230 - 345 - 518 (8 upgrades to buy, to reach size of 500)
* 25 - 38 - 57 - 86 - 129 - ? - ? - 500+ (7 upgrades in this serie that lacks of some exact figures)
* 60 - 90 - 135 - 200 - 305 - 458 - 687. This the case of example. This means that we need to upgrade 6 times the warehouse, therefore the total cost to be able to fit in the corn bulk, is 6*6000 = 36,000 satoshi!
By other hand the hay, warehouse. These are some series of hay warehouse sizes found after each upgrade:
* 20 - 30 - 45 - 67 - 102 - 153 - 229 - 345 - 517 - 777 - 1165 : need to buy 10 upgrades to get over size of 1000; sometimes this series start at 45, therefore 8 upgrades needed
* 105 - 150 - 225 - 338 - 507 - 761 - 1142 ( 6 upgrades needed)
* 20 - 30 - 45 - 60 - 90 - 135 - 200 - 305 - 458 - 687 - 1030 : 10 upgrades needed; sometimes this serie starts at 45, therefore 8 upgrades needed
These series progression is calculated as this: sum half of the current warehouse size, to itself, and round the result if needed.
In the current excample it starts from 60, therefore 7 upgrades are needed. Since each costs 1500, then 10500 satoshi are needed in total to upgrade the hay warehouse enough.
So let's compare:
To start breeding pigs we need: 36000 satoshi (warehouse upgrades) + 3750 satoshi (corn bulk) + 3480 satoshi (Ossabaw Pig) = 43230 satoshi in total to be saved to start breeding Ossabaw pig.
To start breeding goats or sheep we need: 10500 satoshi (hay warehouse upgrades) + 5600 (hay bulk cost). Then we may buy the Corsican goat or the Quessant sheep. Since Quessant sheep produces higher satoshi/minute, then we choose that, therefore: 10500+5600+5320 = 21420 satoshi needed to go from rabbits to breed Quessant sheep.
Here one of the dilemas that might arise to the player: if we delay by saving for pigs, instead for sheep, will we be able to catch up the lost time? It will take double time to start on pigs than on sheep. So we choose to save satoshi for sheep.
There is an important matter yet to decide: the white rabbits provide 3000 satoshi/minute, so, the next animal slots costs: 1500, 4500, and 13500. It seems a good strategy to buy the 2nd and 3rd slots for 1500, and 4500, and buy white rabbits to place there. This choice will help us raise progressively the satoshi/generation speed from 3000 satoshi/min. to 9000 satoshi/min. an important note: as we save satoshi, always keep a minimum amount equal to the value of the animal we are producing, just in case any older animal dies. This means that if we are saving to buy 2nd slot for 1500, don't buy yet, but do when having 1500 + 1180 = 2680 satoshi, which will buy slot and also a rabbit. if a rabbit dies before we reach the amount, then we buy new rabbit for the 1st slot and we keep saving satoshi.
Once having 2 rabbits producing, it will take (4500/6000)*60 = 45 seconds to save for the 3rd slot, and if we check the rabbit ROI, and taking in count that we are producing at double speed, it will take 24/2 = 12 seconds extra to save for the third rabbit.
Again, take in count that if the oldest rabbit of 2 dies before saving for 4500 + 1180 = 5680 , then we must replace the dead rabbit, and go on saving and saving till 5680 satoshi.
So we finally buy 3rd slot and 3rd rabbit, and after that we stop buying slots, because next one costs 13500, and we need 21420 satoshi, to start breeding the sheep. To cover the gap between 4th slot purchase price and starting with first sheep we would need (21420 - 13500) / 9000 = 0.88 minutes, that is, almost 53 seconds. Therefore we keep saving satoshi till 21420.
The purchase of rabbit food has not been mentioned in all this step by step process, but see that it will not happen that often, and it costs 100 satoshi per bulk, so any delay related to buying the rabbit feed is not noticeable. Check the capture below to see the 3 rabbits in production.
So, after upgrading hay warehouse, and purchasing hay bulk, we buy the Quessant sheep. If there is no slot available, kill the rabbit most next to die. Why? as explained with earlier, to increase the satoshi generation, from 9000 satoshi/min to 12500 satoshi /min (2 white rabbits and 1 Quessant sheep). Less than 30 seconds later we will have saved 5320, for 2nd Quessant sheep, so we kill another rabbit if needed and replace by the 2nd sheep. Likewise with 3rd sheep. Now we can consider to buy the 4th slot for 13500 satoshi, since we will be producing 19500 satoshi / min. and increase the satoshi generation to 26000 satoshi/min ( so it will take a bit over 30 seconds to recover the invested satoshi in the slot and 5th sheep). Another dilema here is if purchasing the 5th animal slot for 40,500, to put 6th sheep working, and increase the satoshi generation speed up to 32500 satoshi/min. It sounds like players running with 4 sheep might reach to Buffalo price sooner than if having to save for slot and 5th sheep and then go from 0 satoshi to Buffalo price with 5 sheep.
Although, these dilemas and the rush of the game make it so thrilling!
So we will find ourselves trying to find a balance between satoshi expenses/inversions, and satoshi generation speed. Also since the game settings may be so variable, we may play matches lasting less than 10 minutes, or other ones lasting over 30 minutes.
The spreadsheet capture shown above is very important, so as to keep in hand the info about the satoshi generation speed, per animal.
Speed Game and handicaps
Up to now we have covered the Speed Game as it was: we used to run to buy Buffalo, for 100,000 satoshi, with no 'brakes'. Next point is to explain the addition of handicaps.
Handicaps are stones that other contestants in the match may put in our way. Remember the panel next to warehouses which shows a live rank of the the best 4 players so far in the match?
Those 4 players can be handicaped by all the rest of contestants... yikes! To get one handicap means that our Buffalo price will get increased by 10,000 satoshi, so we must save extra satoshi to buy it. The more handicaps we get, the more the Buffalo price will get increased: so if we got into the temporal live top 4, and suddenly we notice that Buffalo price has risen from 100,000 to for example 140,000 satoshi, it means that we have been applied 4 handicaps. How to apply handicaps to any of the 4 players shown in the panel? As easy as click on the tiny buffalo icon below the player nickname. And it just costs 1000 satoshi, so no matter that it is quite rare to get handicaped from the beginning of the game, it might even happen if you are a known contestant with a good history of in the ranks of the game.
So, up to handicaps, the matter was just to save 100,000 satoshi fastest than anyone else, now the matter is to save satoshi fast, but hey! not that fast, because we may get into the top 4, and be in risk to get handicaps.
The strategies vary here, to achieve the purpose to stay among top 5 - 10 players (we check our live rank at the panel to the left of warehouses), till we rush to reach the Buffalo price. Some known players get handicaps since early stages of the match. But let's talk about tactics.
There are players who run like rabbits in a marathon race, no matter what. A tactic could be to put a handicap to these 'rabbits' and see if that uncovers a pro, experienced player ('hidding' in top 5-10) into the live top 4, so as it gets handicapped.
Taking the example explained earlier, if we are in the white rabbits stage, saving for buying first Quessant sheep, it may be not good to just stack satoshi, getting in risk to get in top 4, but instead, go purchasing hay warehouse upgrades, since that will lower our satoshi balance, enough to keep us out of top 4. Yet, always keep some balance to replace dead animal by a new one, while we follow this tactic.
2 important notes:
- We must have 1 free slot to buy the Buffalo (this means we might even have to kill one producing animal)
- Notice also the next: once we click on 'Collect all' button, our rank is updated according the value of feed we have harvested. Take in count that we have yet to sell it, so it is added to our total balance of satoshi.
Why is this important? Consider the next: we are near to the Buffalo price, we do our math and it results in enough feed to sell for satoshi and get over the Buffalo price, so we click on 'Collect all' (at this moment we might be getting exposed in live top 4!), then click on selling the feed (1 more click to sell meat in case of breeding pigs, and 2 clicks if breeding sheep and we need to sell both whool and meat!). Then, 1 more click so we open the animals shop, and finally the last click to buy the Buffalo. No matter how fast is the player and/or computer, those are quite some clicks, it may pass 2 seconds, till buying buffalo. Enough time to get some handicaps.
Therefore, one tactic could be to produce feed in such excess, that no matter how many handicaps we get, in the end our total satoshi counteracts the possible higher Buffalo price. So the idea is to stop using the collect button, and just let the animals produce the goods, till we do our math and see that selling them will give us the safe gap to avoid possible handicaps. For this tactic note that the selling prices of the goods are:
- 1 Egg: 20 satoshi
- 1 Wool: 100
- 1 Milk: 200
- 1 Meat: 500
But, if we stop clicking the collect button the live data regarding ranks won't get refreshed, so one workaround to this is to buy cheap things like wheat bulks for 20 satoshi, or spend in 100 satoshi upgrades on certain warehouses. This will update the ranks, and we might even handicap our opponents. All of this is risky since it means delays, and also that the current animals statuses might not produce in total the needed goods to reach the desired amount. You might wish to kill an animal near to get finished and replace by a full producing animal, so as to stack enough goods for the final move (collect all - sell goods - open animals shop - buy buffalo)
An additional tactic could be to breed 'slower' animals (which produce less satoshi/minute), but in total they produce more satoshi in their whole life.
For example, once we are quite near the end line, replace black pigs producing at 6500 satoshi/min ( a total of 13,000 satoshi each), by landrace pigs producing at 4000 satoshi/min (producing a total of 20000 satoshi each ).
Using this tactic could be reasonable or not, depending on how many slots we opened and how many animals we have producing in parallel. In the end, all of this is like a bet, so the player is producing an excess of goods, to have a margin in case we get handicaps. Some players just may risk more and be lucky enough to buy buffalo before the handicaps are really applied to their buffalo price.
Also, there is still the chance that we get more handicaps than we estimated, because the high amount of players in match may increase chances to receive them, once we get exposed. This is specially bad since we might have dead animals waiting to be collected, so our satoshi/min production speed might have decreased so much, that it takes quite extra time to save for higher buffalo price. All of this means that if we do our final move and if we 'fail' we might go from struggling for the top 1 to sweat to be in the top 20!
So the player must get skills on how to dodge handicap by avoiding the live top 4 (specially at the final part of the match), and also how to produce the last amount of satoshi, to do the final move of : collect all goods - sell goods - open animals shop - buy buffalo.
This feature about handicaps has brought some randomness at certain matches, so the amount of players who have made a Speed game win has increased. Though in other match settings, specially in the fastest matches, it seems that handicaping is overcomed easily by the dominant, pro contestants of the game. So there are mixed results regarding the real effectiveness of the handicaps.
Speed game, besides the objective for reaching to level 25, is also a very exciting way to compete with other players of the game, and the rush, pressure to do (right) choices may increase our adrenaline, and provide a very entertaining extra time playing Farm Satoshi, besides earning the free Bitcoin!
